Summary of UK Performance

  • In the latest week, sales reached £2.20b; £38m higher than the same time last year but a drop of -2.7% on last weeks’ sales
  • Since the “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme has started we have seen a gradual decline in sales, this week looks to have had a notable impact – around 64 million meals have been claimed in the first 3 weeks. Last years sales this week have seen an increase due to the Saturday in the Bank Holiday Weekend falling in this period
  • Of the +1.7% growth in Total Store sales vs a year ago, Grocery sales increased +1.5% and Non Food grew +2.6%
  • Of the additional £38m spend in the latest week, this was driven by Grocery +£25m and +£13m in Non Food
  •  Tobacco, Prepacked Cooked Meats, Prepacked Fresh Fish, and Fresh Meats feature in the top growing Sub-Categories
  • Interestingly we start to see BWS have a slowed growth this week due to more people opting to use the “Eat Out to Help Out” Scheme, and last year the bank holiday Saturday seeing more BWS purchased
  • Worst performing Sub Categories remain those impacted by the continued lack of movement, so Food to Go categories; Sandwiches, Lunch Salads, InStore Bakery Goods and Prepared Fruit Salads
